However, Mee Goreng in Penang is a different story. It is what we call the Mamak style mee goreng. Mamak describes people of Indian Muslim descent in Malaysia, and this amazing and unique Mee Goreng dish is the fusion of both cultures and flavours. This texture of this amazing dish is a bit sticky because of the amazing paste. The dish is infused with the sweetness of a tomato-based paste, then garnished with potato, cuttlefish/squid, tofu, and lettuce or bean sprouts. It is like mee rebus, but it is fried (goreng) instead of having gravy on it. This dish is normally found at hawker centers and street food stalls. It is stir fried in a very hot wok.
